$3.2 Million Drainage Improvement Project Moves Forward in Two Covington Subdivisions
August 24, 2017
Pat Brister, St. Tammany Parish President, announced today that a $3.2 million drainage
improvement project in Riverwood Subdivision and Country Club Estates in Covington is
moving forward. In addition to the existing drainage infrastructure, the project includes
Phase I; the installation of storm drain pipes on Magnolia Lane and Phase 2; the
installation of storm drain pipes on Laurelwood Drive.
This drainage project, which is happening through local funding coupled with a
grant-funded initiative, will increase the conveyance of the runoff from these areas into
the nearby Ponchitolawa Creek, said Pat Brister, St. Tammany Parish President.
This will improve the drainage capacity for residents in the area, and in the
long-term, enhance overall flood mitigation.
Phase I of this project is expected to go out for bid within the month, and Phase 2 within
roughly three months. This project is funded in part through the Statewide Flood Control
Program administered by the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development
(LADOTD). The LADOTD will fund roughly $1.49 million, while St. Tammany Parish Government
will fund the remainder, approximately$1.7 Million. This program aims to bring about flood
damage reduction through long-term solutions for areas that experience structural damages
or agricultural losses.
